I officially had my first day where I didn't button my pants all day! Granted, I still have pants that fit, but this was much more comfortable. My mom got me a wonderful creation (Bella Band, see left) for Christmas. It allowed me to wear my unbuttoned pants all day long without anyone knowing! Slowly Growing

Christmas Time
Yippee. The day before the day before Christmas.
I love this Christmas because:
I'm a Christian and the celebration of the birth of Christ is amazing, grounding, and reassuring.
I get to be at my grandparent's house on Christmas day.
My hubby and I get to announce our pregnancy to my extended family, and then everyone!
My mom is excited because she'll finally get to talk about becoming a grandma. She has kept the secret surprisingly well for the last 6 weeks.
I am afraid that the combination of baby + holidays are going to = the need for some new pants.

Ecobaby
Even before I was pregnant, I began to read the "Eco-friendly Family" board (see below if you're interested)

What I am most excited about after perusing this board for 5-6 months is the idea of cloth diapering my child. I know that this sounds disgusting and very labor intensive to most people, but since I plan on breastfeeding (which makes all excrements water soluble) the diapers can just be thrown right into the wash (no dunking in toilet, wadding in wet pail, etc). Most of the ladies on this board cloth diaper, so I have learned a lot about the different types of cloth diapers, ways to wash, how to store, what to do on vacations and when out of the home, etc. And while my father says that he refuses to let me turn my baby into a treehugger...I just might have to disappoint my dad this one time : )
What I've learned so far about cloth diapers:
There are many different types and ways to cloth diaper, and the technology has come a long way from prefold/pins and plastic pants.
*They still have prefolds, which are the most economical option, but they now have a fancy tool called a snappi that replaces the diaper pin. (see snappi on prefold diaper to the left)
*One step up from prefolds are "fitteds". These diapers snap or velcro into place and ofter have elastic around legs to prevent leaks. They are absorbant material only, so they must be used with a cover.
*Instead of pull-on plastic pants there are now many options for diaper covers: wool, fleece, and PUL diaper covers (this one is sort-of plasticy) that have snaps or velcro closures. They even make newborn covers with cord cut-outs.
*Pocket diapers are a stay dry liner and a cover attached.... and like the name describes, they have a pocket to stuff the absorbent material into (these are called inserts).
*All-in-ones are just like disposable diapers...but you wash them. The stay-dry liner, absorbent material, and waterproof cover are all there in one diaper. These are the easiest, but most expensive.
And what's cuter than a newborn in a cloth diaper?
I know that cloth diapering isn't for everyone. I want to do it because I feel it will be better for me, better for my baby, and much better for the Earth. I have also seen it estimated that by cloth diapering, I could save about $1,000-3,000 including the $ for laundering vs using disposables.

How big am I?
Size: medium shrimp.
The fact that they use an edible meat to explain the size somewhat disgusts me. I'll be avoiding shrimp cocktails around the holidays I think.
Development:
Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now.

13 Weeks
Today I begins the online journey of my life as a mom. Thankfully, my in-utero child has not required much from me yet. Aside from the positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound, and today, the first sound of baby's heartbeat, I have had little inclination that I'm pregnant. Yeah for no morning sickness.
To date, I have only told my parents and sister/brother-in-law, my husband's parents and sister/brother-in-law, two very close friends, one coworker, and healthcare workers. However, I just found out that one of my parent's friends, with whom I teach a high school small group, told my mom that she knew I was pregnant. Crazy, but quite amazing.
Tomorrow starts the "telling" stage. I have been quite apprehensive (ok paranoid) about telling sooner for fear of miscarriage, but after hearing the heart beat today, most of my fears were laid to rest. So my hubby and I are going to tell our boss tomorrow, and then slowly let it leak from there. I really want to wait for most people to know until after Christmas, when I'll get to tell my grandparents. I am so excited. I'll soon start posting the obligatory "belly" pictures, but since I just feel slightly plump at this stage, I'll spare all of us the joy of seeing that.
